Margaret L. Carter

Margaret L. Carter writes horror, fantasy, and paranormal romance. After graduating from the College of William and Mary and receiving an M.A. from the University of Hawaii, she specialized in Gothic literature for her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine. She began her writing career by editing two horror anthologies, CURSE OF THE UNDEAD and DEMON LOVERS AND STRANGE SEDUCTIONS. Her first published fiction appeared in Darkover and "Sword and Sorceress" anthologies edited by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Her nonfiction includes DRACULA: THE VAMPIRE AND THE CRITICS, THE VAMPIRE IN LITERATURE: A CRITICAL BIBLIOGRAPHY, DIFFERENT BLOOD: THE VAMPIRE AS ALIEN, and various articles on the supernatural in fiction. Among other novels and short stories, her fiction includes DARK CHANGELING (vampire), winner of an EPPIE Award in the Horror category (presented by EPIC, the Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition); SHADOW OF THE BEAST (werewolf); CHILD OF TWILIGHT (vampire), an EPPIE finalist in Horror; FROM THE DARK PLACES (Lovecraft-inspired horror); and WINDWALKER’S MATE (Lovecraft-inspired paranormal romance). Erotic romances include LOVE UNLEASHED (shapeshifter), “Tall, Dark, and Deadly” (vampire novella), "Night Flight" (vampire novella), “Sweeter Than Wine” (ghost novella), and “Allure of the Beast” (werewolf novella). She and her husband, retired Navy Captain Leslie Roy Carter, collaborate on sword-and-sorcery novels.
