The Sarl are the original inhabitants of World Carrick, and have lived there for four hundred generations. Typically, the reproductive cycles of Sarl women don't become active until they are about forty years old. As a result, the Sarl spend the early part of their lives as warriors.
When a Sarl woman reaches child-bearing age, she undergoes the Change and must either have a child or suffer a loss of strength.
The Sarl see themselves as holding a special place in the spiritual and mythological history of the Known Worlds. They are warriors of Janico, the Holy One, defenders of good and avengers of injustice.
The symbol of the Sarl is the Borromean thistle.
